Overview

The High Volume Node Marker is a free Bookmap addon that automatically detects and marks High Volume Nodes (HVNs) on your chart in real time using Cloud Notes.

It scans the session volume profile, identifies every price level that qualifies as a local high within a configurable distance, and outputs each HVN as a labeled Cloud Note with an optional horizontal line. Nodes appear, move, and disappear dynamically as the volume profile develops throughout the session.

Requirements

  • Bookmap with Cloud Notes enabled (Digital+, Global, or Global+ plan)
  • Cloud Notes must be configured to poll a local HTTP URL
  • Windows, macOS, or Linux

Installation

  1. Download the hvn-marker.jar file.
  2. Open Bookmap and go to Settings โ†’ Configure add-ons.
  3. Click Add and select the folder where you downloaded or placed the addon.
  4. Enable the addon by checking the box next to its name.
  5. The High Volume Node Marker settings panel will appear on the right side.

Setting Up Cloud Notes

  1. In Bookmap, open Cloud Notes settings.
  2. Add a new Cloud Notes source with the URL shown in the addon's settings panel (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:8002/hvn_levels.csv).
  3. Cloud Notes polls approximately every 1 minute. Detected nodes will appear after the first poll.
  4. The addon updates its internal data every second, but Cloud Notes only refreshes at its own polling interval.

Note: After changing settings or first loading the addon, it may take longer than 60 seconds for levels to appear. Cloud Notes may briefly display "Unavailable" โ€” this is normal and typically resolves within a few minutes.

How HVN Detection Works

The addon builds a cumulative volume profile from every trade during the current session. On each update interval, it scans all price levels and identifies those that qualify as high volume nodes:

  • A price level qualifies as a HVN if its volume is higher than every other level within the configured Min Distance on both sides.
  • If Min Volume is set above 0, any level with volume below that threshold is skipped entirely.
  • All qualifying levels are output as Cloud Notes entries with the configured label, colors, and optional horizontal line.
  • As the session progresses and more trades occur, nodes will shift, appear, and disappear as the volume profile evolves.

Using Multiple Addons

If you run both the HVN Marker and LVN Marker at the same time, each must use a different port. The defaults are:

  • HVN Marker: port 8002
  • LVN Marker: port 8003

Add both URLs as separate Cloud Notes sources in Bookmap to see both HVN and LVN markers on the same chart.

Troubleshooting

IssueSolution
No markers on chartConfirm Cloud Notes is enabled and the URL matches the one in the addon settings. Wait at least 60 seconds.
Cloud Notes shows "Unavailable"This is normal after changing settings or first loading. Wait a few minutes. If it persists, verify the URL and port.
Port already in useChange the port in Cloud Notes Server settings and click Save Settings. Update the URL in Bookmap's Cloud Notes.
Markers disappearedIf Auto-Reset is on, markers clear at session boundaries. If Bookmap restarted, the volume profile resets.
Stale markers after updateDelete the old .jar from build/libs before rebuilding. Close and reopen Bookmap completely.
